What had happened was...

That's what my students always say when they are about to explain why they just did the incredibly stupid thing they just did, so since I recently did something pretty dumb I'll start my story that way too...
I participate in a little thing called "Short Skirt Thursday". This is a lovely tradition that was begun by one of the library ladies at the school where I teach and since I love libraries and librarians, and since I want to be their little groupie in every possible way I can I am now a weekly participant in "Short Skirt Thursday". The problem is that I'm white. Really, REALLY white. So white that even other teachers make fun of the blinding brightness of my bare, white legs - not to mention all the crap I get from my students.
So I decided to rectify the situation by employing the use of some tanning lotion. I'm not what you'd call fashion savvy (by ANY stretch of the imagination) but I read what I could find and bought one that seemed mild and simple. The instructions were quite clear - after application I was to THOROUGHLY wash my hands. And I did. I washed my hands THOROUGHLY...just not IMMEDIATELY after application...
So now I have orange hands. Yep, orange hands. Almost the exact color of the text in this post now that I think about it. I look ridiculous. But it's OK. I can totally still teach a lesson with my hands in my pockets.

  2. You should SO participate. It's a lovely end of the week ego boost what with everyone all day going "You look nice!" or "What a pretty outfit - what are you all dressed up for?" I will be participating tomorrow as usual and I will be wearing the lovely blue dress I have (bought for me by Alex) because it has pockets and my hands are still orange...

  3. Okay. I am a self-tanner lover. I use it all summer. There are some fine points to consider when using a self-tanner. 1. MOST IMPORTANT: you MUST exfoliate every area that will be tanned. I HIGH suggest using exfoliating gloves. I found mine at Target, but I am sure that any big box store has them in the cosmetics area. They are the best things EVER! (okay, well for exfolitating that is)Use them with body wash and in circular motions, all over, paying special attention around ankles, toes, knees, elbows. You will love them more than sugar scrubs, etc., as you can wash them and reuse them and they are not as expensive. Then, I put just a tiny bit of regular lotion on knees & elbows, so that the tanner doesn't absorb into those areas as much. Okay, onto the tanner application: work in small areas at one time. Feet, then calves, etc. When you are done, wash with soap & use a nail brush if you have one. Also, you can buy the gradual tanners, Jergens has one & Target makes a great generic version. They are much, much easier to use and you can buy them for lighter or darker skin tones. Same rules apply for the exfoliation though. Okay, this is the longest comment ever, so I am going to go now:)
